Recycle your organic waste with a Bokashi Bin
If you are looking for a way to recycle your organic food waste – including cooked food - into compost, the bokashi bucket is a practical and convenient solution! This form of recycling uses bokashi* to create the ideal conditions for airtight (anaerobic) composting. The bokashi bucket and Bokashi Bran eliminate the odours and unpleasantness associated with putrefaction and decay as with traditional composting.
Food waste is thrown into the special bucket which is fitted with a tap and strainer to allow the liquid (Bokashi tea) to drain to the bottom of the bucket, for use as required. Bokashi bran is sprinkled between the layers that ferment the food until the bucket is full and the fermentation process begins.
*Bokashi (a Japanese term that means “fermented organic matter”) is bran that has been infused with effective micro-organisms / pro-biotics (yeast, phototropic, and lactic acid bacteria).
Starter kits are available through Bokashi Bran at R475 which includes 2 x 25 litre buckets PLUS 2 x 1kg Bokashi Bran. Excludes shipping at R50. Additional Bokashi Bran is available at R360 for 6 x 1kg bags.
Bokashi Bran generously donates R50 to WESSA for every starter kit sold, so please remember to quote WESSA as a reference when ordering!
