Situated just 1km from Howick, the 900 hectare reserve starts at the base of the majestic Howick Falls and follows the course of the Umgeni River, passing through beautiful mist-belt grasslands and indigenous forests.
WESSA launched the uMngeni Valley Project in 1976 and uMngeni Valley Nature Reserve has grown to be one of the largest non-governmental environmental education projects in South Africa, with thousands of students participating in courses each year.
Leisure visitors can enjoy panoramic views, diverse walking trails and mountain biking routes, guided walks (including stargazing and full moon walks), adventure activities and a variety of animal and birdlife making it a paradise for nature lovers.
Self-catering accommodation in the reserve includes a choice of 3-star graded cottages and chalets, rustic cottages or bush camps. Conference facilities also available.
The reserve is open daily from 6am - 7pm in Summer and 6am - 6pm in Winter.
