uMngeni Valley Nature Reserve & Education Centre

Situated just 1km from Howick, our 900 hectare reserve starts at the base of the majestic Howick Falls and follows the course of the uMngeni River, passing through beautiful mist-belt grasslands and indigenous forests. The reserve features panoramic views, diverse walking trails and mountain biking routes, guided walks (including stargazing and full moon walks), adventure activities and a variety of animal and birdlife making it a paradise for nature lovers. WESSA launched the uMngeni Valley Project in 1976 and today the education centre is one of the largest non-governmental environmental education projects in South Africa, with thousands of students participating in courses each year.

Self-catering accommodation in the reserve includes a choice of 3-star graded cottages and chalets, rustic cottages or bush camps.

The reserve is open daily from 6am - 7pm in Summer and 6am - 6pm in Winter.
